According to Deadline, Star Trek: Discovery season 5 will now be the show's conclusion. Early in 2024, the season will air on Paramount+. Due to the time lag between this announcement and the season's debut, Paramount+ plans to host a number of events over the course of the following year to honor the series' legacy.
Without Discovery, Modern Star Trek Wouldn't Exist
Enterprise: Discovery is the cornerstone of the broad television franchise and not just the longest-running Star Trek show on Paramount+. The series was a sign of things to come in many ways because it debuted so long ago that the streaming service was still called CBS All Access. Of course, this also applies to the immediate sequel Star Trek: Odd New Worlds. As Captain Christopher Pike, Anson Mount.
Nonetheless, Star Trek: Discovery is responsible for the existence of even shows that aren't spin-offs. In addition to The Good Fight, Star Trek: Discovery kept the fledgling CBS All-Access streaming service afloat. This allowed them to rebrand as Paramount+ and launch a cottage industry of live-action and animated Star Trek productions. These programs currently include the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy as well as the Star Trek: Picard prequel series from The Next Generation.
Enterprise: Discovery was also a guide for future Star Trek shows to uphold the integrity of the adored historical characters while pushing representation and diversity in casting. Across the board, well-known figures from different eras have either appeared through actors reliving their roles or new performers giving the characters new life. Notable appearances include Kate Mulgrew's comeback as Kathryn Janeway in Prodigy, Ethan Peck's portrayal of Spock on Strange New Worlds, and the majority of the TNG cast revisiting their roles in the currently airing Picard season 3.
