Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden appeared together at an event for the first time since Biden announced he would not seek a second term and Harris was named the Democratic nominee.

The event, held just outside Washington, D.C., coincided with former President Donald Trump's news conference in New Jersey—his second campaign event in as many days.

The Democratic event on Thursday highlighted the Biden administration's newly announced agreement to reduce the cost of 10 commonly used prescription drugs for millions of Americans. It also provided a glimpse into the evolving dynamic between Biden and Harris as the party adjusts to the new ticket.

According to the White House, around 2,300 people attended the rally in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, a Democratic stronghold.

“I have an incredible partner in the progress we've made," Biden said. "She's going to make one hell of a president."

But beyond policy announcements, Biden used the event to elevate his vice president, bringing the crowd to its feet multiple times.

The admiration was mutual.

"There's a lot of love in this room for our president," Harris said. "Few leaders in our nation have done more on so many issues, including expanding access to affordable healthcare, than Joe Biden."
